MSL HUB OPENS IN CHOMA
The Medical Stores Limited (MSL) Southern Region Cross-Docking Hub has been opened in Choma with Government directing amanagement to hasten distribution of drugs and other medical supplies to all health centres. The fully stocked medical distribution hub which was commissioned by Health Minister Dr. Joseph Kasonde recently, is situated on the Livingstone Road in Choma. Dr. Kasonde said the hub was a new model called "Cross-Docking" which would allow orders of each health centre to be processed at MSL and be transported in bulk on trucks of between 7 to 20 tonnes. He said this in a speech read for him by his Deputy Minister Christopher Mulenga. The Minister said the new distribution model would improve supply and management of drugs to health centres in all parts of the country. "The key outcome of this new distribution model is not only to remove chronic shortages of drugs and medical supplies but to support districts in the management of these resources. It will also ensure the country meets its health objectives as ratified in the Sixth National Health Strategic Plan and the Health Millenium Development Goals (MDGs)," Dr. Kasonde said.
